Help Desk Support

This position provides support to end users on a variety of issues. Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems. Responds to telephone calls, email and staff requests for technical support. Documents, tracks and monitors the problem to ensure a timely resolution. This is a part-time position consisting of 20 hours per week, eligible for benefits. Pay rate is $9.79/hour.

Position Requirements

  • Strong aptitude for computer troubleshooting and repair, particularly Windows but also OS X: spyware and virus removal, hardware configuration, upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read documentation and comprehend written or orally-delivered directions in order to remedy minor computer malfunctions.
  • Desire to contribute to and improve documentation, in collaboration with the team.
  • Ability to run computer systems in order to methodically troubleshoot minor computer malfunctions.
  • Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision (self-motivated).
  • Mutual respect, appropriate and timely sharing of information (teamwork).
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned (adaptability).
  • Positive attitude towards public service work (courteous).
  • Must be able to demonstrate good judgment and problem solving skills.
  • Must be reliable.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality of all customer records.
  • Treats library patrons with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Ensures timely response to computer down time.
  • Identify and organize help desk tickets according to priority.
  • Distribute tickets to Network Administrator or other computer staff as needed.
  • Configures computer equipment as instructed and prepares computer equipment for operation.  Tests said equipment for usability.
  • Troubleshoots minor equipment or software malfunctions and corrects them as directed by computer operation manuals, or supervisor.
  • Updates software library, support agreement library, and equipment inventory database.
