Plant Cutting Library

Take a plant, leave a plant - for free! Located near the computer lab on the second floor. While supplies last.

To propagate a plant for sharing with others:

  1. Clean scissors or shears with sanitizer wipes.
  2. Choose a thick, healthy stem.
  3. Cut the stem just below a leaf node.
  4. Strip the lower leaves of the stem, leaving a few at the top.
  5. Dip the end of the stem in rooting hormone.
  6. Place the cutting in a glass of water.

When you get home:

  1. Put your new plant in a glass of water.
  2. Place in a warm and bright location, out of direct sunlight.
  3. Keep the water above the cut line or growing roots. Change the water once every 1-2 weeks.
  4. Check regularly for signs of growth.
  5. Once the roots are strong, transplant into a pot of moist potting mix, sand, perlite, or vermiculite.
  6. Keep moist but watch for rotting.
  7. Enjoy!
