The bestselling author of Dear Martin, Nic Stone, spread her message of love and humanity with the Westerville community in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 15, 2024.
"King lived in a counter-cultural way. That's what he expects of us today. To see your adversary as deserving of love. It's much easier to love your enemy than to love yourself." - Nic Stone
When asked about the greatest takeaway from the MLK Breakfast event, an attendee shared:
"The importance of approaching those with whom I disagree with love and recognition of their humanity."
Another attendee shared:
"There were so many good takeaways! Wow! First and foremost, the guest speaker Nic Stone...authentic, open, positive, and powerful."
And after Nic Stone spoke at the high schools the following day, Westerville South High School teacher Sarah Detrick asked her students to apply Stone's use of different writing styles to explore topics like climate change and social justice. Senior Tyler Johnson shared,
"I'm learning that my voice is important."
