The American Library Association (ALA) has announced that the Westerville Public Library was selected to participate in Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, opens a new window, an initiative of ALA and the Public Library Association (PLA), sponsored by Grow with Google, opens a new window, the tech company’s economic opportunity initiative.
The $1,000 mini-grant will be used to promote digital skills within the community. The library will use the funding to purchase a smartphone and accessories that will be used to demonstrate augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) solutions.
In addition, various Grow with Google tools will be incorporated into the curriculum for training events. And self-directed kiosks will be available to introduce the community to job search and business solutions. Customers can learn how to:

- Navigate the online world safely, opens a new window.
- Write a business plan, opens a new window.
- List a business online & build a website, opens a new window.
- Travel to space with AR/VR. Coming soon.
These tools and free training opportunities can help business owners and job seekers gain a competitive edge, tackle technology, and unlock potential. Dedicated to digital inclusion, the library is excited to increase access to and awareness of these burgeoning technologies. With these tools, today's job seekers can develop digital skills for the evolving workforce while business owners can increase reach to potential customers.
