Thank you for your support!

While the Ohio House budget still falls short, your voice made a difference.

I would like to personally thank everyone who reached out to Ohio House Members in the past week. Sharing your personal stories of how your local library has positively impacted your life helped show legislators  the importance of libraries as vital community hubs across our state.

On Tuesday, the House Finance Committee amended the budget to allocate $490 million in library funds for fiscal year 2026 and $500 million for fiscal year 2027. While we appreciate the House's efforts to adjust the funding proposal, it’s important to note that the current version of the bill still falls $90.8 million short of the Governor’s recommended funding for public libraries over the biennium.

“This gap is concerning, as it directly impacts the ability of libraries to continue providing essential services that benefit all Ohioans,” said Michelle Francis, executive director of the Ohio Library Council. “Every two years, we engage in this process to defend the Public Library Fund, advocating for the percentage allocated to libraries as well as highlighting the significant value and savings libraries provide to taxpayers.”

Local libraries play a crucial role in delivering critical services, including access to educational resources, technology, and workforce development programs.

“We still have concerns with the House’s version of the bill. As we move forward, we remain committed to working with the legislature and the Ohio Senate to ensure that libraries receive the full support they need to continue serving Ohio communities,” Francis said.

Thank you for taking action to help restore funding for your library and libraries across the state.

With gratitude,

Erin Francoeur
