Memory Lab

Preserve your memories by converting them to a digital format.

Options for file storage include:

  • Flash drives (options for sale at desk)  

Note: Some files generated may be quite large and can take time to transfer or upload.

Audio Cassettes (Converter & Player)

Convert audio cassettes to MP3 files. This device can also be used to listen to old cassette tapes.

Search for your ancestors in millions of historical records.

Photos, Documents, Slides, and Negatives (Scanner)

Scan and digitize items up to 17x22 inches with this flatbed, high-resolution media scanner.

VHS Tapes & DVDs (Converter & Player)

Convert your old VHS tapes and DVDs to MP4 format. This device can also be used to watch VHS tapes while converting to a digital format.

Vinyl Records (Converter) [COMING SOON]

Listen to or convert your vinyl records to MP3 format.

Rules & Restrictions

Limit of 3 hours while others are waiting. To gain access to the lab, present your library card and ID to the staff at the desk on the second floor. Printing projects are scheduled through staff and can be picked up when completed.

Your use of the lab is subject to the library's Terms of Use.

  • Must be 18 years or older; or 16-17 years old with a signed waiver from parent/guardian that acknowledges the rights and responsibilities of both parties; or accompanied by an adult who meets all requirements for use.
  • Must have a Westerville Library card in good standing.
  • Must present a government-issued photo ID or school ID with the current school year's date clearly indicated.

Use of the lab is intended to be self-guided. Minimal instruction provided. Library staff can recommend resources for learning.

Reservations

Walk-ins welcome as availability allows.

  • Reservation limit is 3 hours per day; no more than 90 days in advance. (Setup, teardown, saving, or clean-up are to be completed during your allotted reservation time.)
  • Request in person, by phone, or online.
